ISO 10993-18

This is a study for volatile organic compounds. Medical device (solid or extract) is placed in a glass vial, which is inserted into a headspace sampler. Content of the glass vial is heated using a predefined program that controls temperature and time duration. Procedure makes use of internal standards. Volatilized gas phase is delivered to the GC-MS (gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometer) for analysis and identification.
